Cristal edge Binacional in Controversial Thriller

Sporting Cristal defeated Deportivo Binacional 2-1 at the Alejandro Villanueva stadium in Lima last night in what was an entertaining encounter for the neutral.

Binacional have managed to improve their form after a disasterous Copa Libertadores campaign, having managed to go undefeated in their previous 4 games, winning 3 of them.

Binacional usually benefit from a strong home advantage along with a hostile atmosphere and high altitude at their home stadium which is 3824 metres above sea level. This encounter however was played at the neutral venue in Lima, which played into the hands of Cristal.

Johan Arango scored a golazo in the 82nd minute which seemed to have clinched a draw for the home side who were only still in the game due to the miraculous efforts of goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.

However after receiving a red card in the 89th minute, goal machine Emanuel Herrera popped up to head home in the 93rd minute to take home a 2-1 victory. As you can see, the winning goal was technically offside due to the offside player interfering with the goalkeepers line of vision. For the record, VAR is in use in the Peruvian league, so this appears to be a blunder. Check out the highlights for this thrilling encounter below.
